Mammologix Word Dictionary
Mammologix has created an interactive word dictionary using its extensive involvement with the nomenclature associated specifically in breast imaging related terminology. It is based upon more than 25,000 breast imaging report of test results and gleans 3,909 of the most commonly appearing words into a single reference guide. In addition, 1020 frequently occurring two-word combinations are included in a separate section. Using the Search function available in the publication format, users can navigate to a specific word within the dictionary or browse through it page-by-page.
Each word is individually linked to the MedlinePlus website, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. Harnessing the power of Merriam-Webster Online, each MedlinePlus word link seeks out entry(ies) for the specific word. If located, it offers a pronounciation, function, inflected forms and related definitions. Should a word not be included as an entry in the MedlinePlus Medical Dictionary, there is a search tool available in making further inquiries about a derivation, or some other word altogether.
Medical terminology serves as an effective communication tool between healthcare professionals making it easier and quicker to understand the nature of a specific issue. However, often this same lexicon can serve to bewilder and complicate an open exchange between those same healthcare professionals and their patients.
